Welcome Life Long Learners! I am delighted that you are participating in my course. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and being part of this adventure with you. This course introduces participants to Western ideas of love, starting from the Classical Greek times to the Middle Ages. Discussions will be based on literary texts as well of philosophical texts representative of historical social concepts of love. We will also explore psychological views of love.

Course Outline

Love Stories Mini.

The meeting times for this course will be Fridays from 6:30pm—7:30pm from August 5, — 25, 2024. All meetings will be held via zoom. Study questions will be provided prior to each meeting. All reading material will be made available to you via this webpage. Here is a breakdown of what our schedule will be:

Week

1. Introduction. We will begin with a reading of religious beginnings of love before moving into early Ancient texts focusing on love.


2. This week focuses on conflicts that can arise from love. We will explore the psychology of love as described by a number of theories. A discussion will also be provided on the tragedies of love.


3. This week we conclude the course with an introduction to the concept of love during the Medieval times. Concepts will include magic, courtly love among other things. These concepts will be presented via literary texts.
